A Gentle and Quiet Spirit

1 Peter 3:3-4
Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

Our society focuses a lot on outward appearance. God calls us however, to focus more on our inner beauty and what's on the inside.  We can show our inner beauty by being humble, gentle, modest and having self-control.

1 Timothy 2:9-10
Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness--with good works.

Part of inner beauty is knowing how to dress on the outside. God calls women to dress modestly. This doesn't mean you have to cover up your whole body, but be cautious how you do dress. The way women dress, act and speak can influence a man toward godliness or sin. Only display yourself to your husband! :)

Proverbs 31:21-22; 24-25
For all her household is clothed with scarlet. She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple.....She makes belted linen garments and sashes to sell to the merchants. Strength and dignity are her clothing, she shall rejoice in time to come.

I love this verse. The Proverbs 31 woman knows how to look good, but she also knows that strength and dignity is one of the most important things she can cloth herself in.

A woman who is characterized by all of these things (a gentle and quiet spirit, modest, self-controlled, dignified) is precious to God, a blessing to her husband and a joy to all who are around her.

Are you that woman?
